"Priests are not priests one-by-one, but they are priests and serve the mission of the Church in a presbyterate in union with the bishop," The Basic Plan for Ongoing Formation of Priests, USCCB
Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology's Institute for Priests and Presbyterates offers dioceses four models of presbyteral assemblies for building unity. These do-it-yourself assemblies are designed to help your diocese create an event that will serve the needs of its presbyterate, are based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, and allow the diocese to avoid the expense of bringing in outside presenters.
Intentional Presbyterates 1: Claiming Our Common Sense of Purpose as Diocesan Priests
This assembly model focuses on the theology of presbyteral unity, on writing a common vision statement and on hearing the expectations of internal and external stakeholders. This theme can also be provided as a presbyteral retreat by the Director for the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates, Fr. J. Ronald Knott.
Intentional Presbyterates 2: Honoring the Variety of Gifts within Our Presbyterate
This assembly model focuses on how giving fellow priests opportunities to share their gifts and talents with one another is part of the work of building presbyteral unity and constitutes part of a priest's spiritual life.
Intentional Presbyterates 3: Made Holy By Our Shared Ministry
This assembly model is based on themes from Patores Dabo Vobis, concentrating on how a priest's three-fold ministry is his principal means of sanctification.
Intentional Presbyterates 4: The Asceticism of Dialogue in the Ministry of Unity
This assembly model is based on a theme within Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Ecclesiam Suam to help priests learn to speak with one another more effectively.
To request these presbyteral assembly models or to have Fr. J. Ronald Knott provide a retreat to your diocese's presbyterate contact the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates.
